Udupi, Dec 12: Deputy commissioner Dr K Vidyakumari has issued a directive, invoking Section 133 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, to ensure public welfare. The order mandates the compulsory installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in all medical and pharmacy establishments that sell "X" and "H" drugs across the district.

Shop owners are given a two-week period to adhere to the directive by installing CCTV cameras. The District Drug Controller is tasked with conducting inspections to verify compliance. A press release from the Deputy Commissioner's office emphasizes that violators of this order may face legal action, including the filing of criminal cases, in accordance with the applicable regulations.
