Udupi, Dec 20: In a heartwarming celebration, the marriage ceremony of two girls residing in the women's dormitory was conducted by the Women and Child Welfare Department at the State Women's Home on Wednesday, December 20.
The marriage ceremony brought together Kumari from Bhadravathi, who tied the knot with Sathyanarayan, a priest from Yallapura, and Sheela from Tumkur, who wed Ganesh Shastri, a farmer from Kundapur Bedradi Taluk. The event, organized in collaboration with the State Women's Hostel, district authorities, and other donors, unfolded in a traditional manner amidst the presence of officials and well-wishers.
A festive mehendi program preceded the wedding on the evening of December 19 at the State Women's Home.
Dr. Vidya Kumari, Deputy Commissioner (DC), graced the marriage function with her presence and extended her blessings to the newlyweds.
Shamala, Deputy Director of the Women and Child Welfare Department, commented on the significance of the occasion, stating, “This marks the 24th marriage organized by the Women and Child Welfare Department. Facilitating marriage ceremonies for state orphan children is a considerable responsibility. The willingness of the girl to marry is a prerequisite, and only then is a proposal from the boy accepted. Subsequent legal procedures, including background checks on the groom, are meticulously conducted. Once the boy is deemed eligible, the marriage proceedings commence.”
Expressing her happiness, newlywed Kumari shared, “I have spent many years in the stay home, where they have cared for me like their own daughter. I am delighted that all government officials attended my marriage.”
Groom Sathyanarayan joyfully remarked, “Police and income inquiries took place after we approved the marriage. I am happy and eager to welcome the bride into our family.”
Shridevi, an attendee, commended the Women and Child Welfare Department for organizing a meaningful event, stating, “I am delighted to be a part of this event and would like to congratulate both the couples.”
The attendees, officials from the stay home, and others expressed their joy and shared in the celebration.
