Mangaluru, Jan 19: The renovation of the State Bank service bus stand, initiated a few years ago at a cost of Rs 4.2 crore, remains incomplete, leaving portions untouched. Despite significant expenditure, the facility continues to face challenges in its development. Only two out of the five bus shelters have received newly constructed roofs, while the remaining three shelters remain untouched for several years.

Passengers endure inconvenience due to damaged shelters, with some areas lacking roofs entirely. Despite public demands for comprehensive development, the concerned administration has neglected to address the issues plaguing the service bus stand.

In the harsh heat, passengers are compelled to wait with makeshift measures like umbrellas or towels to shield themselves from the sun. The broken tiles further underscore the incomplete and poor quality of the work. Additionally, shelters lacking roofs pose a safety hazard with sharp iron grills, particularly when passengers rush towards buses.

The urgency to catch buses may result in passengers colliding with the dangerous iron grills, leading to serious injuries. It is essential for bus drivers, conductors, and the public to collectively maintain the service bus stand. Observations reveal hygiene and cleanliness concerns around the bus stand, indicating inadequate maintenance.

Despite long-standing demands from bus drivers and conductors for overall development, officials have not addressed these issues. Furthermore, significant funds spent on constructing a pedestrian footpath adjacent to the service bus stand are marred by its misuse for urination, causing distress to pedestrians.

The question arises whether the concerned administration, if taking up development works, will effectively maintain the service bus stand. The current state of footpaths, post-urination, highlights the need for officials to go the extra mile in ensuring proper maintenance after development.

It is the same case everywhere. Why the job started cannot be finished on time. Kadri Market Ready one year ago still awaiting for opening. Gail Gas dug up the roads in the city 18 months ago to lay gas pipelines . No news about piped Gas. For Jalasiri water supply roads were dug up at shaktinagar one year ago. No news. And many many more similar cases.

because we are a great highly corrupted third world country...the only motto of any elected representative, government employee and any contractor getting govt project is to loot taxpayers' money...believe me this will be the condition in next 1000 years also...that is why winston churchill said while India was getting independence in 1947 that THE COUNTRY IS GOING INTO THE HANDS OF RASCALS...THEY WILL TAX EVEN WATER AND AIR....the days are not far....

Absolutely! I had a terrible experience two months ago when I injured my foot and had to get a tetanus injection as a precaution. At that time, I didn't know whom to complain to, so I'm relieved to see it being highlighted in the news. As Mangalore undergoes development, it's crucial that safety considerations span from the initiation of the work to its completion. In my relatives' neighborhood on Nandigudda Road, drainage work led to the careless scattering of jelly stones everywhere to fill up the dug up road. Additionally, a pile of jelly stones brought for roadwork remained untouched after the completion of the project. This is unacceptable. It is essential that all leftover materials are promptly cleared after the completion of any work. Genuine contractorship entails ensuring the quality of the entire process, and only then can a city progress in the right manner.

Finally this issue has been highlighted. Thank you Daijoworld. With the private buses moving now to the service bus stand, the amount of people there has increased considerably. There is no shelter for people who wait there; people have to stand there in the scorching heat or heavy rain. As pointed out in the report the iron grills pose a very huge risk and can definitely injure a person When wil the administration wake up? Mangalorean
