Mangaluru, Mar 1: The department of clinical psychology at Srinivas Institute of Allied Health Sciences hosted ‘AHSCON 2024’, a day-long workshop titled ‘Understanding Mindfulness in Rhythmic Movements’ in collaboration with RGUHS and KAPHA on February 28. Esteemed speakers Dr. Vaishalee and Anagha Deshmukh, assistant professors from the department of clinical psychology at MCHP, MAE, Manipal, served as resource persons for the event.
Dr CA Raghavendra Rao, chancellor of the institute, officially inaugurated the programme and spoke about the need for psychologists in modern era and how committed psychologists should be to enhance societal mental health. Inaugural function was graced by the presence of other dignitaries, Dr Sathyanarayana Reddy, vice chancellor, Dr. Anilkumar, registrar, Dr David R, medical superintendent, Dr Udayakumar Rao, dean of SIMS & RC, Dr Thomas Pinto, dean of engineering college, and Prof Pavana Krishnamoorthy, dean of IAHS SU, extended warm welcomes to the gathering. The gathering was welcomed by Asha N, course coordinator of the department of clinical psychology, extended greetings on behalf of the department.
The proceedings were expertly moderated by Anjali KS, assistant professor at the department of clinical psychology, who served as the master of ceremony and Nisha K R, assistant professor at the department of clinical psychology, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks.
This distinguished assembly set the stage for a day of insightful discussions and practical learning, highlighting the institute's commitment to fostering excellence in allied health sciences.
Dr Vaishalee initiated the workshop with a comprehensive exploration of the theoretical aspects of mindfulness. Her session delved into defining third wave therapies, clarifying the essence of mindfulness, and distinguishing it from related concepts. Additionally, attendees gained insights into the various core third-wave therapies of mindfulness, accompanied by detailed explanations and practical techniques for implementation.
In the afternoon session, Anagha Deshmukh facilitated a hands-on exploration of the practical applications of the techniques introduced in the theory session. Through interactive demonstrations and guided exercises, participants had the opportunity to apply the concepts learned and deepen their understanding of mindfulness in rhythmic movements.
Later, the valedictory session commenced, featuring esteemed guests and dignitaries. Dr Mithun S, MBBS, MD, and DNB from the department of psychiatry, SIMS & RC, graced the occasion as the chief guest, lending his expertise and insights to the ceremony. Joining him were Prof Pavana Krishnamoorthy, dean of IAHS, SU, and the resource persons for the workshop, Dr Vaishalee and Anagha Deshmukh, alongside Asha N, course coordinator of the department of clinical psychology.
During the ceremony, certificates of participation for the workshop were distributed by the dignitaries present on the dais, acknowledging the efforts and contributions of the attendees. Neha and Dipti expertly managed the proceedings as the masters of ceremony, ensuring a seamless and engaging conclusion to the event.
As the session drew to a close, Suparna S, assistant professor at the department of clinical psychology, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all those involved in making the workshop a success. Their collective efforts and commitment to advancing the field of clinical psychology and allied health sciences were duly recognized and appreciated, marking a fitting conclusion to the event.
