Mangaluru Mar 12: Former MLC Ivan D'Souza criticised MP Ananthkumar Hegde for his remarks about changing the constitution and labelled him as someone who is suffering from depression and in need of treatment.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, March 12, Ivan D'Souza stated, "On one hand, they claim to uphold the constitution, while BJP leaders openly talk about changing it within their party circles, leading to contradictory statements. Hegde's statement cannot be dismissed as his personal opinion; rather, it reflects the inner agenda of the party and RSS directives. It is evident that Hegde is experiencing depression and requires urgent treatment.

“Recently, the words ‘secular’ and ‘socialist’ were found missing from the preamble in the copies of the constitution provided to lawmakers on the first day of the new parliament building. It is noteworthy that a constitution copy was burnt at Jantar Mantar, and the BJP remained silent, indicating a lack of respect for the constitution. If Hegde's statement is accurate, then he should be suspended. However, the BJP lacks the courage to take such action, possibly implicating their involvement. Ivan D'Souza also highlighted the timing of the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, just prior to elections, as the government took five years to notify CAA rules,” he said.

“Karnataka has contributed 25 Members of Parliament (MPs), yet they have remained silent in the parliament, rendering them unfit for their roles. It is heartening to witness people raising slogans against their own MPs, indicating a growing realization of their inactivity. We are committed to offering the best candidates, and I urge the public to join us in this endeavour," Ivan D'Souza urged.
