Gammath Kalavider’s Tulu drama ‘Va Galiged Puttudana’ enthralls massive crowd in Dubai

Dubai, Mar 13: Gammath Kalavider Dubai, known for their decade-long commitment to staging Tulu Dramas and promoting Tulu art and culture in this region, presented their maiden social comedy drama, ‘Va Galiged Puttudana’ at Dubai Emirates Theatre on March 9.

Sarvotham Shetty, Harish Sherigar, Pravin Kumar Shetty, Sandeep Rai Nanje, Joseph Mathais, and Gammath Kalavider, along with promoters Harish Bangera, Dayan D’Souza, James Mendonca, and Manohar Tonse, were present at the event. President Rajesh Kuthar, drama director Vishwanath Shetty, and other dignitaries lit the lamp and inaugurated the proceedings. Gammath Kalavider UAE president Rajesh Kuthar provided an introduction, welcomed and congratulated the dignitaries, and honoured them.

Tributes were offered, and a moment of silence was observed at the start of the program in honor of the late Dinesh Alva, a prominent arts promoter from Dubai, and the late Kaup Leeladhar Shetty, a drama organizer, who recently passed away.

Tulu fans braved the heavy rain and storm in Dubai to attend the drama, showcasing their pride in Gammath Kalavider and their deep love for the Tulu language.


The drama, conceptualized by Dubai's renowned drama director, ‘Ranga Sarathi’ Vishwanath Shetty, featured a foreword written by him for this inaugural production.

The music for the drama was composed by Shubhaker Belapu. The expertise and guidance of dramatist Jagadish Shetty Kenchanakere ensured the success of the sound and lighting arrangements.

Gammath Kalavider's talented ensemble, including Rangakesari Chidananda Poojary, Suvarna Sathish Poojary, Deepti Deenaraj, Deeksha Rai, Vasu Shetty, Girish Narayan, Ramesh Suvarna, Jaish Bayar, Janet Sequeira, Cynthia Mendonca, Rajaneesh Ameen, Jasmitha Vivek, Sannidhi Vishwanath Shetty, Amith, and Vittal Poojary, captivated the audience with their stellar performances. Additionally, first-time child artists Dia Vallabhan, Shaivi Prabhakar Poojary, Tanvik Vivek, Gahan Dhananjay, Divit Dinraj Shetty, and Dakshit Premjit garnered attention with their remarkable portrayals.

Senior artists of the drama, Jaish Bayaru and Lavina Fernandes, were honored with the 'Kolli Rashtrada Kala Seva Gaurava' award. Additionally, well-known comedian and drama writer, Sandeep Shetty Rai, along with senior dramatist Jagadish Shetty Kenchanakere, were felicitated by Gammath Kalavider.

The pamphlet for ‘Middle Class Family’, a Tulu film directed by Rahul Amin and featuring Vineet Kumar from the 'Raj Sounds & Lights' team as a lead, was unveiled. Gammath Kalavider drama artists, including Chidananda Poojary, Dony Corea, Asha Corea, Deepti Deenaraj, and Girish Narayan, have also acted in the film.

Honorary sponsor of the team, Harish Bangera, extended congratulations to the art supporters for their contributions and expressed hope for continued cooperation from all quarters to ensure the survival of Tulu language and culture.

The background singing by Telikeda Bollia's Dr Devadas Kapikad and Ravindra Prabhu, as well as the songs and lyrics by Tulunada Ranga Chanakya Vijaya Kumar Kodialbail and Rajnesh Ameen, left a lasting impression. The program was skilfully compered by Arati Adiga.

The unique stage crafted by Dubai Source company, coupled with the expert sound and lighting arrangements by Pramod Kumar, enhanced the beauty of the drama.
