Lok Sabha elections to be held from Apr 19 in 7 phases, result on Jun 4

Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 16: The Election Commission of India on Saturday announced the schedule for the 543 parliamentary constituencies for 18th Lok Sabha elections, the biggest democratic exercise in the world involving 96.8 crore voters, including 21.5 crore young voters between age 18 to 29 years old.

The poll schedule for four state Assemblies - Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim - were also declared.

Besides this, bypolls to 26 Assembly seats will be held in Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Tripura, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.

According to the announcement, Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka will take place across 7 phases. The first phase is scheduled for April 19, followed by the second phase on April 26, the third phase on May 7, and the fourth phase on May 13. Subsequently, the fifth phase will occur on May 20, the sixth phase on May 25, and the seventh phase on June 1. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is set for March 30, with votes slated to be counted on June 4.

Additionally, elections for Dakshina Kannada will be conducted on April 26, while the second phase for other parts of Karnataka state is scheduled for May 7.

With this, the Model Code of Conduct, as is the established norm, came into immediate effect.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, flanked by the two newly appointed Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, said elections would be held in seven phases. In 2019, elections were also held in seven phases.

The Lok Sabha elections 2024 will be held at 10.5 lakh polling stations from April 19 to June 1 and counting of votes will be held on June 4.

The first phase of polling will be conducted on April 19, the second phase will be held on April 26, the third phase on May 7, the fourth phase on May 13, the fifth phase on May 20, the sixth phase on May 25, and the seventh and final phase will be held on June 1.

The current tenure of the 17th Lok Sabha ends on June 24.

There was also a great deal of popular anticipation as to whether polls for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly would be synchronised with the parliamentary election. That, however, has not happened, perhaps due to considerations relating to the security situation in the region.

The Supreme Court has directed that polls for the Union Territory of J&K have to be completed by September end.

It is as clear as daylight that the EC is dancing to the government's tunes. The elections have been spread over 7 phases so that the election campaign manager is able to deliver speeches all over the country. The dates have been arranged in such a manner. This is the time the people should rise above their affiliation to one man. This is the time they have to think about the future of this country. They should not get carried away by the hollow speeches the man is known to deliver. He has the gift of the gab, without doubt he is a prolific speaker but as we have seen in the past, the man only promises. Nothing more than that. I wonder where have all those promises gone - acche din aayenge, main chowkidar banke baitoonga, main desh bikne nahin doonga and all that stuff he said just to hoodwink the people. None of these promises has been fulfilled. Absolutely none. This time some other promises are being made. Please don't fall for such promises. Acche din have never come, the chowkidar is not to be seen anywhere and the country is being sold. The fence is eating the crop.

EVM are supposed to simplify and fully automate counting process then why this unnecessary delay. Of course they want time to tamper with the EVM and make sure BJP and company win.
