Mangaluru, Mar 16: Former minister Ramanath Rai criticized the BJP central government over electoral bonds, alleging that Pakistani companies have contributed to the BJP's funds. He said that the BJP's decision to replace the MP candidate for Dakshina Kannada was due to the candidate's incompetence and underperformance.

Speaking to the media at the Congress office in Mallikatte, on Saturday, March 16, Rai stated, "When Modi came to power, he promised 'Na Khaunga Na Khane Dunga’, but the issuance of electoral bonds brought everything to light. The Supreme Court had to intervene and request documents, revealing that over 50% of business bonds were for the BJP, while the Congress received only 11%. Many companies fear enforcement agencies like the ED and IT, leading them to donate more than their business capacity, resulting in kickbacks. Demonetization adversely affected many families, and despite BJP's promise to bring back black money, nothing has materialized. Additionally, BJP has received funds from Pakistani companies and blocked Congress' bank accounts."

He continued, "Modi's promises of giving Rs 15 lac to everyone and retrieving black money remain unfulfilled. The government has resolved loans for wealthy businessmen but neglected poor farmers. People desire change, and our guarantee schemes, which are popular and widely accepted, will benefit everyone. BJP claims our schemes will bankrupt the state, but if announced by the State government, it's deemed bankruptcy, whereas Central government initiatives are labelled 'Modi ki Guarantee’. Each family has received around Rs 5000 through our schemes, proving their effectiveness beyond just the MP elections."

Responding to questions about Congress' prospects in the elections, Rai said, "Coastal Karnataka voters, although intelligent, have traditionally favoured BJP. The decision to replace our MP was due to his incompetence in fulfilling promises. BJP's aim to secure 400 seats to amend the constitution is concerning. We believe in upholding the constitution, while BJP's agenda seems to threaten minorities and marginalized communities."

Regarding the delay in announcing the Congress candidate for the MP elections, Rai stated, "There is no rush. We will select a suitable candidate in due time. Unlike the BJP, we prioritize people's welfare over elections and candidates. BJP's desperation is evident whenever Modi speaks."
