Mangaluru, Mar 18: In a heart-breaking incident, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a bike at Talapady.

The deceased, identified as Rajesh Shetty (49), resided near the old bus stand of Talapady.

Rajesh, who owned a bakery nearby, was waiting to cross the highway after lunch to return to work. Unfortunately, a bike traveling on the wrong side of the road collided with him at high speed. The impact threw Rajesh onto the road, resulting in severe head injuries. Despite being rushed to a private hospital, he tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Rajesh is survived by wife and two daughters. His elder daughter is pursuing a degree, while the younger one is preparing for the upcoming SSLC examinations scheduled for March 25.

An active member of the community, Rajesh served as the vice president of Talapady Veeranjaneya Vyayama Shale and was involved in the Bunts' association.

The south traffic police have detained bike rider Mohammed Sohail and have filed a case against him in connection with the accident.

Very shocking and extremely sad news. The only bread winner of the family is killed because of an irresponsible rider. Hope the government imposes strict punishment on such riders. RIP Rajanna. You will be missed.

Wrong side driving should be punished as a murder suspect otherwise it will not stop in india. Again we have to blame bad road designs too. One innocent bread earner lost his life.

Even in front of traffic police most of the drivers be it bikes, cars etc go on the wrong side. The traffic police do not object . Also near our school the parents by car and scooter, school pickup vans still go on the wrong side. The correct turn is only couple of meters away. If they are doing the wrong thing what will they teach their children

Most of the places including in city area, because of the road divider ,those vehicles riders take wrong side to avoid long turn and take shortcuts. Some may do to save Petrol and some for to save time. Our administration has not given right and left turn in correct places but given only to help big commercial buildings to help them.

No enough. I strongly believe driving in opposite side is basically "Attempt to murder".

Our roads will be much safer if the reckless driving of private busses and wrong-side driving of vehicles are curbed.

Wrong side driving/riding is a curse to our city, especially in places like Farangipete, Deralakatte. I don't understand why traffic cops don't give a damn about it.

Sad incident. RIP. I have seen several several two wheeler drivers especially the youngsters. I dont know what they are thinking of themselves. Always ride in a high speed and causing danger to the life of him as well as others. Whats was the fault of Rajesh Shetty. He lost his life as well as his family are orphan. Please take strict action on the rider and this will be a lesson to those who ride the two wheelers who they think they are riding a flight.
