Mangaluru, Mar 18: Nandini ice cream, featuring 50 varieties, was launched into the market on Monday by the Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited.

The president of the federation, who inaugurated the cold storage unit, stated, “As the Karnataka Milk Federation has appointed Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited as the super stockists, out of the 152 ranges of Nandini ice creams, 50 are now available in the market. Completely natural and indigenous, Nandini ice cream is accessible to the public at an affordable price.

“Dairy farmers receive 85% of the share in Nandini products. Consumers and dealers should take advantage of this opportunity. Marketing ice cream from our federation has been our dream for many years. There is intense competition in the ice cream sector in Mangaluru. Nandini offers high-quality ice cream and has already generated significant demand. Additionally, we have an ultra-modern cold storage unit,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, the director of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), Kaup Divakar Shetty, said, “KMF manufactures various types of natural ice creams like Seethaphal, Anjura, and Butterscotch. It competes strongly with other ice cream products in the market. We are making honest efforts to attract consumers through excellent service.”

The managing director of the Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited, D Vivek, mentioned, “The release of ice cream is due to the excellent cooperation received by Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited from KMF. We have 40 deep freezers with a capacity of 300 litres each to store the ice creams. The distribution will be based on demand, and we have already received requests for 55,000 litres of ice cream on the first day.”

Marketing manager Dr Raviraja Udupa and directors of Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited, Savita Shetty and Subhadra Rao, were also present.

Most of the products launched by Nandini / KMF are really good and much cheaper than other ice creams. Gone are those days, where one brand used to be ruling as monopoly. However, recently i tasted Sitapphal flavour, but it was not upto the mark and could taste more on milk powder. If Nandini goes into real fruit application in their ice creams like Natural, then i am sure none will be able to beat them due to various reasons and one among will be price. Also, there was an ice cream competing with Naturals called "Thunder Fresh" and was liked and in great demand. Due to Covid the outlet had to be closed, but it was very good and more affordable than Naturals.

We have been using nandini for ages but starting a few years back all powder is stuck to the utensil when heating and shockingly oil is floating on top, after removing this undigestable ingredients, the liquid that is left bears very little resemblance to milk! How can we get adequate calcium!
