Kasargod, Mar 27: In a brazen daytime theft, thieves absconded with Rs 50 lacs from a vehicle that had arrived to replenish cash at ATM kiosks in Uppalapete on March 27. The cash was pilfered after the vehicle's glass was shattered. The incident occurred during a routine cash-filling operation at the Axis Bank ATM in Uppala.
As the vehicle stopped and the employees opened the ATM kiosks, they returned to find the vehicle's glass broken. Upon inspection, it was discovered that nearly Rs 50 lacs were missing. The cash, transported in an agency vehicle, was intended for replenishing the ATM. The money from the rear locker of the vehicle had been temporarily placed on the seat's center to facilitate reloading at the Uppala bank branch.
After securely locking the glass door, the employees departed, only to find the cash stolen upon their return.
The Manjeshwar station police promptly arrived at the scene to initiate investigations. Both the vehicle driver and the employees have been detained for questioning, while footage from nearby CCTV cameras is being examined for further leads.
