Udupi, May 23: Colonel Victor Francis D’Souza (retired), a decorated officer of the Indian Army, passed away peacefully at his home in Manipal on Thursday, May 23. He was 79 years old and was surrounded by family and close friends at the time of his passing.

Col D’Souza had an illustrious career in the Indian Army's Signals Corps, serving with distinction for 33 years. He was among the original cadre of Indian Army officers trained for multi-domain warfare, including sea, land, and air operations. His military service saw him actively participate in the 1962, 1965, and 1971 wars, as well as numerous counter-insurgency operations.

 

After his retirement from the army, Col D’Souza dedicated his civilian life to education. He served as a Special Officer for MIT Hostels for two years before becoming the principal of Dr T M A Pai Polytechnic, Manipal, a position he held for 12 years with great distinction until his retirement. His contributions extended to the Christ Church in Manipal, where he served as vice-president of the society and played a pivotal role in establishing Christ School. He remained a guiding force for the school as a member of its managing committee.

Col. D’Souza is survived by his wife Elsie, his daughter Carrol and son-in-law Vishal, his sons Carey and daughter-in-law Christian, and Clive and daughter-in-law Asha. He also leaves behind three cherished grandchildren, Anirudh, Calvin, and Anjali.

The funeral cortege will depart from his residence at 104, Mandavi Palace, Manipal on Friday, May 24, at 9:50 am. The funeral mass will be held at Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte-Kalianpur, on Friday, May 24, at 10:30 am.
