Byndoor, May 29: A footbridge has been constructed in Byndoor based on the concept of MLA Gururaj Gantihole. This innovative footbridge, built using chassis from old buses and lorries, has been raised at Rampaiah Jaddu, Yedamoge for the first time.
There is a lake that must be crossed to reach Yedamoge from Kummeruberu. In the past, people used to construct a temporary footbridge to cross the lake. They would erect wooden logs at a height of 30 feet for the footbridge. Crossing the lake on this footbridge during the monsoons was challenging, particularly for the sick and schoolchildren who had no choice but to walk on it. This unique footbridge, constructed using chassis, is likely the first of its kind in the state.
The footbridge is being constructed at a low cost by the Samradda Byndoor Trust and the Bengaluru-based Arunachalam Trust, with help from local groups and organizations. Similar footbridges are being constructed at about 50 locations in Byndoor. The footbridge at Rampaiah Jaddu is almost 75% complete. Three pillars have been raised, chassis have been installed directly, and metal plates have been joined across them. The installation of the hanger plate will be completed soon. It will be opened for traffic after the side guard is installed. The footbridge is approximately 60 feet long and about 20 feet high.
The three pillars have been constructed from the bottom of the lake. The chassis are strong enough to withstand weights of up to eight quintals. Although it is wide enough for rickshaws and Santro cars, the villagers believe it will suffice if it is restricted to pedestrians and two-wheelers.
The footbridge will be ready in a week, and people are overjoyed. Footbridges at Vandse and Thombattu Kabbinale are also nearing completion.
