Kuwait: Yakshagana Presented by Buntara Sangha at ‘Buntaayana 2011’ Grips Audience

Kuwait Oct 22: Buntara Sangha Kuwait (BSK) under the presidentship of Sudhakar Shetty presented the much awaited Mega Cultural event ‘Buntaayana 2011’ at the Cambridge School Auditorium on Friday October 21.
The event was a cultural bonanza with various dance, music and informative skit performed by the members of BSK. The main highlight of the event was Yakshagana, the famous traditional folk drama of Mangalore/Tulunadu performed by the renowned artists flown from India.
The programme started with prayer song followed by invocation dance directed by Sujatha Shetty, Reetha Shetty and Shanthala Menda. Famous dignitaries and personalities of Bunts community Folklore expert Erya Laxminarayana Alva, ex minister- MLA Ramanath Rai, Business man Shashikiran Shetty, Principal Balakrishna Shetty, Yakshagana fame Patla Satish Shetty, Ayyad and Hussein Al Shatty were guest of honor. They along with managing committee inaugurated the function by lighting the traditional lamp and decorating coconut flowers. Vice president Preeti Shetty Welcomed the gathering.
President Sudhakar Shetty on his speech explained the history of bunts and the way they contributed to the society. The sponsors of the event were felicitated with mementos during the function. Erya Laxminarayana Alva, Ramanath Rai, Shashikiran Shetty and Balakrishna Shetty, were felicitated with shawl, fruit basket and mementoes. They spoke few words to the gathered. Balakrishna Shetty entertained the audience with his humorous speech which was appreciated by every one.
In a dramatic way with skit “Bantayana” the traditions of Bunts were described in dance form to the audience which gave the Kuwait born children a clear picture of traditions and festivals of India. Tha dances included Nagara panchami, Ganesh Chathurthi Dance/Bhajan, Dassera, and Deepavali. The chain of these skit and dances were directed by Sanath Shetty, Reetha Shetty, Shalini Alva, Nalini Shetty, Kalpana Shetty, Neetu Shetty, Akshatha Hegde and Prakash Shetty. A Tulu song was sung by Prakash Shetty.
The much awaited Yakshagana ‘Devu Poonja Pratapa’ entertained the audience with its professional perfection and comedy. The artists who arrived from India were Satish Patla, Aruva Koragappa Shetty, Siddakatte Chennappa Shetty, Umesh Shetty Uberadka, Prashanth Shetty Vagenadu, Jayaprakash Shetty Permude, Deepak Pejavara, prajwal Kumar and Guruprasad. The Boota Kola was enacted which was directed by Prakash Shetty Bijantla. General Secretary Guruprasad Hegde thanked every one. The well arranged programme came to an end with spontaneous dinner. The programme was coordinated by Yadunath Alva Adyapady and well compered by Manoj Shetty and Swarna Shetty.
