Udupi, Jun 8: “I will never run away from failure, I will accept it. I will remain a BJP member forever,” said former MLA Raghupati Bhat.
Addressing the media on Saturday, June 8, Bhat said, “Due to time constraints, I could not reach out to everyone for their valuable votes. I contested in the MLC election with high expectations but did not anticipate failure. I will reach out to each individual who continuously supported me in this election, and I would like to thank them. Many people have helped me regardless of their party affiliation, and I will stand by them forever.”
Discussing the reason for his candidacy, he said, “I was really disappointed when the BJP offered the MLC seat to another candidate, despite promising it to me. This election does not carry any party symbol, so my participation will not affect the BJP. The BJP offered the seat to the winning candidate purely because of his financial resources. I contested to raise awareness about this issue.”
Talking about the election itself, he said, “The Udupi region largely supported me. I aspired to become a member of the Vidhana Parishad to help the needy, as I have always done. I am happy that I contested in a fair election. I never resorted to bribing or making false promises to the voters. I sought their votes for a genuine reason. Even after the BJP offered me an MP position, I did not back out of my decision, as many people helped me, and I did not want to betray them.”
On the topic of voter enrollment, Bhat remarked, “The coastal Karnataka region has limited enrollment. I want the enrollment system to change. Once graduates are enrolled, their enrollment should continue for a lifetime. In universities, the enrollment should be automatically registered every three years.”
BJP member Shivaram Udupa, former presidents of zilla panchayat Jaral Fernandes and Upendra Nayak, Mahesh Takur, Roshan Shetty and others were present.
