Sullia: Woman falls while harvesting cocoa, dies in hospital

Sullia, Jun 15: A woman who lost her balance while harvesting cocoa and sustained severe injuries at Thumbethadka in Nelluru Kemraje village three weeks ago has died in a hospital in Mangaluru.

The deceased has been identified as Saraswati (59), the wife of Thumbethadka Aithappa Naika.

Saraswati was a daily wage labourer. Three weeks ago, while harvesting cocoa, she lost her balance and fell, suffering a severe spinal cord injury. She had been receiving medical treatment in a hospital in Mangaluru but succumbed to her injuries on Friday.

Saraswati is survived by her husband, two daughters, and a son, Venugopala Thumbethadka, a member of the Nelluru Kemraje gram panchayat.
