Puttur, Jun 19: Police have ruled the death of Hemavati (37), a resident of Darkhasu in Bilinuru village near Perne, as a murder and have arrested a minor in connection with the case. The incident occurred on June 16 night.
The accused is a class 10 student, the nephew of the deceased, who was staying at Hemavati’s house for the night. According to the police investigation, the boy behaved indecently towards his aunt, and when she resisted, he strangled her to death.

Hemavati's husband, Vithala Pai, also known as Shailesh, from Maani village in Bantwal taluk, reported his suspicions regarding his wife’s death to the police. Following the complaint, the police conducted an investigation, leading to the arrest of the minor. The case has been officially registered as a murder, according to investigating officer Uppinangady rural police inspector Ravi.
