Vijayanagara, Jun 21: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah got visibly furious at the Vijayanagara district slipping from rank 10 to 27 in education in Human Development Index and immediately asked the State Education Secretary by Telephone to suspend the District’s Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) and Block Education Officer (BEO) forthwith for the poor performance.

The incident happened during the review of the Vijayanagara district on Friday.

Siddaramaiah got livid and asked why the DDPI should not be held accountable for the Vijayanagara district’s poor academic performance.

The district has slipped in the pass percentage record in the SSLC examination as compared to last year.

“The DDPI and BEO are responsible. What were you and the teachers in the district were doing?” he asked and wondered why the district fared badly despite the award of 20 grace marks. Are you satisfied at the district’s performance,” he said.

The Chief Minister took the District Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad as to the steps taken by them over the poor SSLC performance of the district.

If the education system is not revamped and set right, the society will suffer enormously. The future of the children cannot be treated lightly. The entire education administration in the district from DDPI, BEO and the teaching community must be held accountable, he said.

The Chief Minister also took the Social Welfare Department officials to task for not monitoring the functioning of the scheduled caste and scheduled tribes’ hostels.

Needs of farmers must be handled

With the onset of monsoon, the Chief Minister directed the officials to ensure that seeds and fertilisers must be made available and any lapses will not be tolerated. The district agricultural officers will be held responsible for any problems, he warned.

Siddaramaiah asked the officials to disclose if any of the villages in the districts lacked toilets and when the officials replied in the affirmative, he got angry and wanted to know how the district was declared open defecation free.

“We are furnishing the information provided by the officials to the legislature. Can we give wrong information?” he asked.

There are so many other performances needs to be checked... especially healthcare, road accidents etc etc but at least education is being monitored, good start I would say. I am politically neutral, only sees how govt reacts to important issues.
