Udupi, Jun 26: Udupi district BJP workers laid siege to DC Office and submitted their appeal in their protest held against the Congress-led state government here on Wednesday, June 26.

Addressing the protesters which included the district Raitha Morcha, MLA Yashpal Suvarna demanded fulfilment of  various demands of farmers. "I request the police department not to be a puppet of the government and instead work for the welfare of people. We BJP workers know how to work towards the welfare of people. A sacred cow has been brought to the protest today. If our demand is not fulfilled then we will bring as many as 50 cows to lay siege to the DC office," he said.

He said, "Increasing milk price does not matter but the government should release the grants-in-aid to farmers. All farmers should be given justice."

Dr Naveen Kumar, chief secretary State Raitha Morcha, flayed the government for stopping the grants. He said, “Congress in the last one year has created fear among the people, and encouraged corruption. If they care about farmers they should reopen the Agriculture Diploma College that has downed shutters in Udupi.

He said the government has disburse the grants-in-aid to the farmers and criticised the government for abolishing Bhoosiri Yojana, Sheela Samrudhi bank account. "Obavva Athma Raksha yojane has also been stopped and other schemes favourable to farmers," he said.

Kishor Kumar, President of BJP Mangaluru region, criticised Congress, likening them to a scorpion, saying, “They only sting people. They have increased the price of necessary items and are creating a fearful environment. Eventually, all the guarantees they promised will be stopped. Grants-in-aid should be increased. The Congress government is begging for money, and in the future, they will make the people beg for money.”

Kamalaksha Hebbar, President of Raitha Morcha Udupi, emphasized in his presidential note during the peaceful protest, “We have sacred cows here, so we hope our demand will be fulfilled. If not, we have buffaloes symbolising Mahisha ready for fierce protests. The Karnataka state government is against farmers. Guarantees should be provided without affecting dairy farming's basic amenities. We demand the release of grants-in-aid for dairy farming, reduction in fuel prices, reopening of agricultural diploma colleges, securing kumki rights, addressing illegal distributions, and lowering seed prices."

The protest began from Coin circle, Manipal and ended at the Udupi DC office.

The protest was aimed at highlighting grievances against the state government's policies affecting farmers and demanding immediate action on several welfare issues.

Pushparaj Shetty, Chief secretary, welcomed the gathering. Reshma Uday Shetty, chief secretary, district BJP, Dinakar Shetty Herga, Kuilady Suresh Nayak, former president of district BJP, Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, former president, Shrikanth Kamath, Lalaji R Mendon, former MLA, Thinagalaya Vikramarjun, and others were present in the protest.
