Udupi, Jul 5: The Santhekatte underpass, which was opened to traffic on April 7, began to deteriorate within just two months, disrupting traffic flow.
Despite being newly constructed, the road has developed large potholes due to the substandard construction of the underpass by the authorities, posing a significant danger to motorists. Heavy rains have exacerbated the problem, causing difficulty for people traveling by car, auto-rickshaw, two-wheelers, and other vehicles.
The continuous rainfall has filled the potholes with water, making it difficult for riders to judge their depth, thus increasing the risk of accidents. Heavy vehicles driving over the rainwater-filled potholes splash muck onto two-wheelers, temporarily blinding riders and causing them to lose balance, potentially leading to accidents.
As the road connects various places, vehicle traffic is very high, which further deepens the potholes and heightens the danger to motorists. Additionally, the ongoing construction work on the other half of the underpass, coupled with the potholes, is causing significant disruption to smooth traffic flow.
The presence of potholes on the underpass road highlights the poor quality of construction work.
