Bantwal, Jul 6: In a tragic accident on the Bantwal-Punjalkatte national highway at Vagga in Kavalapaduru village, a scooter and a goods mini-truck collided on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of the pillion rider and leaving the rider critically injured.
The deceased is identified as Sumeeth (24), a resident of Bekal near Kasargod. The scooter rider, Gurpreet, sustained severe injuries and has been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.
According to reports, the scooter was traveling from Punjalkatte towards Mangaluru when it was struck by an oncoming mini-truck. The mini-truck was attempting to overtake a pickup vehicle when it collided with the scooter. The impact of the collision was so severe that Sumeeth sustained critical head injuries and died instantly at the spot.
Local residents quickly responded and transported the injured Gurpreet to a hospital in Mangaluru in an ambulance. Bantwal traffic SI Suthesh visited the scene, registered a case, and is conducting further investigation into the incident.
