Udupi, July 12: Member of Parliament for Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency Kota Srinivas Poojary has issued a stern warning to National Highway (NH) officials regarding delays in the construction of the Santhekatte Underpass.
Expressing frustration over the prolonged timeline despite his multiple site visits and directives to expedite the project, Poojary emphasised the urgent need for completion. He has escalated the matter to Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, seeking intervention to accelerate progress.
"I have visited the Santhekatte underpass construction site three times and have been instructed to finish the work soon. I have also instructed them to take actions against the contractor," Poojary said, underscoring his efforts to address the delays.
In addressing other infrastructure issues, Poojary noted delays in the Indrali railway bridge construction due to issues with MESCOM's pole relocation, which have recently been resolved. He indicated that work will commence once weather conditions permit.
Turning to railway developments, Poojary mentioned ongoing discussions about merging Konkan Railway with Indian Railways. He mentioned an upcoming meeting with central railway officials on July 22 to discuss these plans, including extending Vande Bharat services to Mumbai.
Regarding other underpass projects, Poojary reported that the tender for the Ambalpady underpass has been approved, while efforts continue to secure approval for the Katapady underpass tender. He also highlighted the need for service roads along national highways in various areas, promising to address these infrastructure needs.
"If NH officials continue to delay the work, I will file a written complaint against these officials with the NH department," Poojary warned, reiterating his commitment to ensuring timely completion of crucial infrastructure projects in his constituency.
