Bengaluru, Jul 14: With the monsoon session of the State Legislature set to commence from Monday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held a review meeting with all senior officials to be fully ready to provide details pertaining to different departments to the ministers concerned.
The meeting was held in the Chief Minister’s Home Office of Krishna in Bengaluru on Sunday.
Siddaramaiah had convened the meeting of Additional Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary and Secretary of different departments to ensure that the information pertaining to the departments must be provided to the ministers so as to enable them to properly answer the opposition leaders in the State Legislature.
As the State’s full budget has been presented, debated and approved by the State Legislature in March, the ensuring Legislature session is not meant to discuss the budget. Normally, the vote on account would be taken when the budget is presented and the full debate will be held during the monsoon session.
However, as there is no scope for a debate on the budget, the Chief Minister said the Opposition members were likely to utilise the session for discussing diverse issues and the ruling Congress party should be fully prepared to meet the onslaught, he said asking the officials to prepare details on the developments in different departments on issues likely to be raise by the opposition.
Siddaramaiah directed all the officials and heads of departments to be mandatorily present in the legislature session and provide necessary information to the ministers on the matters being raised in the session. “I will intervene whenever it is necessary. But the officials must ensure that the ministers are properly briefed,” he said making it clear that the Department heads and senior officials cannot escape their responsibility be delegating junior officers to attend on their behalf.
Chief Secretary Dr Rajneesh Goel, Chief Minister’s Additional Chief Secretary L K Atiq and other senior officials attended the meeting.
