Mangaluru, Jul 26: An unidentified thief, dressed in pants, stole money from the clothes of two labourers working in a building under construction on Friday, July 26 evening near Maadur here. With the dreaded Chaddi gang's robbery, burglary incidents creating panic in DK district, it is suspected that the thief at the construction site could be a member of another group of miscreants, "Pant gang." The suspected thief's face was captured on CCTV.
The theft took place in a building owned by Shashi, a resident of Maadur. Two labourers were working on tile installation in the building. Around 4:30 PM, a well-built man, aged between 30 and 35, entered the building. He left the room where the labourers were working, went to another room, and stole cash that had been kept in their clothes. Approximately Rs 2,000 in cash was stolen from the two labourers.
The labourers realized their pockets were empty when they were about to leave for home in the evening. Without money to catch the bus, they informed the building owner, who reviewed the CCTV footage. It revealed that an unidentified man had exited the building and boarded an auto-rickshaw towards Deralakatte.
Two days earlier, a similar incident occurred where Rs 8,000 in cash was stolen from labourers working in another building under construction. The video footage and social media messages about the Pants Gang being active in Maadur-Kotekar have caused concern among the locals. A complaint has been filed at the Ullal police station.
