Daijiworld Media Network – Moodbidri (MS)

Moodbidri, Jul 29: A tragic incident occurred at Kotebagilu on Sunday night, where a youth died of suffocation due to a poisonous gas leak from a gas geyser while bathing.

The deceased has been identified as Shareeq (18), son of the late Ansar, residing in an apartment at Kotebagilu. Shareeq went to take a bath on Sunday night and did not return for a long time. Concerned, his family members broke down the bathroom door and found him dead inside.

It was reported that the bathroom was completely closed, with no ventilation for the gas to escape. As a result, Shareeq inhaled the gas and suffocated.

Shareeq had recently completed his PU studies and had been admitted to a college in Moodbidri for his first-degree studies.

Every now and then we come across this kind of news. Is it due to lack of education on risks with gas-based geysers? Exhaust fans should work there 24/7. Those fans do not consume that much power anyway.

@Mayya Sir; best, in place of space constraints, is to fix them outside the bathroom!! 😔🙏

Very tragic & unfortunate 😔; may his soul rest in eternal peace 🕊️🙏! Before installing gas based geysers firstly adequate ventilation should be taken into account, or the geyser should never ever be fitted in a closed area, as during the heating process oxygen from the atmosphere (enclosed room) is sucked and deadly CO2 released; in the absence of ventilation the enclosed space gets filled with CO2 and the person inhaling it rapidly gets giddy.... leading to convulsions... and finally death! These types of unfortunate incidents have been occurring at regular intervals but lay people are still not aware; it's the duty of the technician to ensure that the space is well ventilated before fitting these gas based geyser!! 😔😔🙏🙏

Such a tragedy. RIP young man. Bathrooms must have a ventilation and exhaust fans should be running if one is inside. The Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning is the biggest reason for the whater heaters/ geysers fatalities.
