Mangaluru, Jul 29: Unauthorised petty shops along Mannagudda Road near Ladyhill Circle and KPT on Airport Road were vacated by the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) during ‘Operation Tiger’ on Monday July 29.

Around 25 to 30 petty shops near Ladyhill Circle were cleared. Four individuals who obstructed the operation were taken into custody by the police. The cleared shops included those selling tender coconut, fast food, pani puri, and omelettes.

Deputy commissioner of MCC Rekha Shetty, health officer Dr Manjaiah Shetty, and revenue department officials participated in the operation.

Barke and Kadri police station personnel provided security.

It may be recalled, mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur had announced earlier that due to increasing complaints about street hawkers and street food, causing difficulties for pedestrians and raising health concern, the ‘Operation Tiger’ will resume on July 29.

Thanks, Oneday i asked a Nepali MOMO Vendor near Gandi park Gokarnatheshwara college. That why he is serving Fried MOMO's in Polystrene foam plate (Thermacol plates) which is highly Cancerous. I saw specially youngsters(students who are studying and staying in PG hostels) are consuming it . His response was "Shaab aapko chahiye tho khao nahi tho chodo shaab sab logo ko isme hi dhethe hai " Atleast take some health measures to serve these type of foods i said kept quiet. but seems like local municipality has found this is also a one of the reason for this.

Mannagudda being a residential locality, with ample of walking area, these vendors made a mess of the area. Traffic blocks, unwanted parking and causing danger to public. Off course they need to be allocated a proper place, which can be near kadri park, or near town hall area. But it is good that they have been moved out from the area where they were making business.

Street foods are fun if it's hygienic. Just removing them doesn't make sense. There must make proper provisons for such street vendors. Create a place for them as they are also just earning a dignified livelihood

So all Street foods r unhygienic ok accepted because they do it openly and we people see it and still people come to eat. What about restaurants do think there is hygeine...if yes how do we know that?...they prepare food in separate room filled with all unhygienic stuff do we go n inspect it...... First let this so called Manglore City Corporation appoint food inspectors to maintain hygiene...so there will not be any issues.. these food inspectors r dead in our Mangalore city.

Good action by MCC. They should also vacate street hawkers who put tent between Nanthoor and KPT junction and sell items. They do live there too... Within no time it will turn into a slum if no action is taken now!

This is only a eye wash and main criteria is VIP's from the airport coming to the city and this is fool them. The St. Mother Teresa, Falnir is filled with petty shops obstructing pedestrians from using the footpath, specially school children. Hope the concerned will do something.

Look at the petty shops from Kankanady to Falnir Road. So many fast food outlets with no hygiene. Most of them are north Indians who have spoilt the habitat of our beautiful kudla.

"Due to the egg omelet vendors, paani poori, Juice cola,Sugarcane juice and Chinese food vendors, there are a lot of roadblocks in Ladyhill. People don’t have a footpath to walk on, nor a road. Mangalore City Corporation, open your eyes and do something.”

The police seem to be selective in doing these antics. They dont or cant do anything with street vendors blocking places like statebank, central market, car street, and many more places. I sincerely hope to see sincere action against everyone and not single out places in Kudla.

just taking out street vendors is not sufficient. The corporation authorities should oversee not return on the street daily. Supposedly brought back fine them heavily. Also autos should not be parked on the vendors vacated places.
