Landslide at Edakumeri likely to delay Bengaluru-Mangaluru trains by 15 days

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 30: Repair work on the railway tracks between Edakumeri and Kadagaralli along the Shiradi Ghat, where a massive landslide has occurred, is underway at a rapid pace. The landslide, which struck again on Friday evening, has severely disrupted train services. Many trains are now running on alternate routes, and some have been cancelled. It is anticipated that it will take an additional 15 days to restore the railway tracks.

The landslide has cut off road connectivity to the affected area, making it necessary to transport all equipment and tools via train wagons. Due to the imminent danger, two engines have been attached to the front and back of the wagons to transport rock and other materials. However, bringing equipment close to the damaged tracks is challenging, requiring over 750 workers to manually transport materials.

As a result, flight and bus prices have doubled. The train track restoration is expected to continue for another 15 days.

To accommodate passengers, two special trains will operate to Bengaluru on July 30 and 31. On July 30, the Southern Railway will run a one-way special train from Madgaon to Bengaluru, traveling via Mangaluru Junction. This train will depart at 4:30 pm and pass through Karwar, Ankola, Kumta, Honnavar, Murudeshwar, Bhatkal, Byndoor, Kundapur, Udupi, Mulky, Suratkal, Mangaluru Junction, Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Palakkad Junction, Coimbatore Junction, and Krishnarajapuram, arriving in Bengaluru at 3:30 pm the following day.

Similarly, a one-way train from Karwar to Yeshwantpur will run on July 31, departing Karwar at 5:30 pm and traveling via Kumta, Honnavar, Murudeshwar, Bhatkal, Byndoor, Kundapur, Udupi, Mangaluru Junction, Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Palakkad Junction, Coimbatore Junction, and Krishnarajapuram, reaching Bengaluru at 2:15 pm the next day.
