Mangaluru, Aug 4: In a recent crackdown on high beam violations, Mangaluru has emerged as the second-highest city in Karnataka, with 1,365 cases recorded. This enforcement action began in July, and a total of 28,620 violations have been registered statewide.

The initiative aims to prevent accidents caused by sudden blindness from high-intensity lights during nighttime driving. Alok Kumar, ADGP of Karnataka, highlighted that high beam lights are a significant factor in head-on collisions at night.

Bengaluru tops the list with 9,046 violations. Other cities with notable violations include Raichur (1,178 cases), Hubballi-Dharwad (1,096 cases), and Vijayanagara (1,342 cases). In contrast, Mandya and Mysuru reported much lower numbers, with just 21 and 22 violations, respectively.

Each violation carries a fine of Rs 500. This crackdown is part of a broader effort to enhance road safety and reduce accidents during nighttime driving.

Do not blame the drivers alone. Check the condition of the roads and the lighting first .

A majority of drivers do not know what's the use of high beam, Seeing the road ahead is critical for safety. Unfortunately, poor headlight etiquette, like not knowing when to turn on high beams, can make it more difficult for you and others to see the road. Generally, a car’s high beams are useful for very dark roads with little traffic and good weather. In many situations, they can be less helpful and may hinder good driving. Understanding when to use high-beam headlights is one of many safe driving practices worth refreshing.

Just like our politicians who don’t know that they are public servants and are supposed to work for the betterment of our people. Similarly, our drivers don’t know when , where to use high beams and for how long. Some of them are ignorant and some of them audacious that they think they own the roads. If the public servants can maintain good lighting and good quality of roads , accidents can reduce significantly.
