Mangaluru, Aug 6: The Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail, in association with the Justice and Peace Commission, Senior Citizens Club, and Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh Derebail Unit, conducted an awareness programme titled 'Nimma Bhadrathe Namma Adyathe' (Your Safety is Our Priority). This event, held with the assistance of the city police department, took place on August 4 at the Golden Jubilee Hall, Derebail church.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries on the dais: Fr Joseph Martis, parish priest of Derebail church; Fr Kevin Lawrence D'Souza, assistant priest; Sheela D'Souza, vice president of the parish pastoral parishad, Denzil Pinto, secretary PPP; Anil Patrao, coordinator of 21 commissions of PPP; Raghavendra M Byndoor, inspector of police, Kavoor Police Station, Mangalore City; Manuel Salodor Monis, representative of justice & peace commission; Ronald Vaz, vice president, Senior Citizens Club, Derebail Church; Vilma Monteiro, president, Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh, Derebail Unit; Patricia Mendonca, a victim of a burglary incident; and Edward J Coelho, coordinator of the programme.
Fr Joseph Martis gave the introduction and welcomed the dignitaries and the august gathering, highlighting recent incidents of robbery around the parish and the immediate actions taken by the police to maintain law and order.
Following this, the parish priest honoured the leaders who quickly responded to help the family and manage the trauma of the burglary: Sandesh Mascarenhas, Manuel Salodor Monis, Michael D'Silva (Gurkar), Clary Coelho, Juliana Coelho (Gurkar), Edward Coelho, and Patricia Mendonca.
Angeline Delphine Pinto introduced the chief guest, Raghavendra M Byndoor, inspector of police, Kavoor Police Station, Mangalore. The safety informative session, conducted by Raghavendra Byndoor, provided important tips on handling robbery incidents, cyber frauds, and other cheating practices targeting senior citizens and other vulnerable members of society. The session lasted 45 minutes, after which Byndoor answered questions from the audience.
Four hundred people from various communities attended the programme. Fr Joseph Martis honoured the spokesperson and welcomed hashidhar Hegde, the local corporator, who joined later. Edward Coelho gave the vote of thanks, and Dora D'Cunha compered the programme.
