Hassan, Aug 10: A landslide occurred on the railway track between Sakleshpur and Ballupet on Saturday morning, causing significant disruption to train services. Two trains that departed on Friday night were halted at Hassan and Aloor railway stations, leaving passengers, many of whom were heading home for the weekend, in a difficult situation.

Train services between Bengaluru and Mangaluru were cancelled from midnight on Friday. Railway workers are currently clearing the large amount of debris from the tracks. The railway department has temporarily suspended services between Padil and Hassan Junction. The DRM Mysuru announced on social media platform X that the service will resume shortly.

Train routes connecting Bengaluru with Kannur, Bengaluru with Murudeshwara, and Hassan with Mangaluru have also been cancelled. The Aloor-Hassan route is closed as well. Passengers faced inconvenience as trains stopped at six stations, including Sakleshpur, Yadakumari, Shiribagilu, and Aloor, with thousands of passengers spending the night on the train. The railway department arranged alternative transportation on Saturday morning.

Bullet train, Vandhe Bharath etc. are great optics and vote catching gimmicks , indulged in by present regime. India has a long way to go for these fancy projects that cater to the upper crust. 80 percent of Indians are struggling to make two ends meet, for decades the Indian Railways prepared the separate railway budget focussingbi. How best to get passenger and rail traffic to the masses at affordable rates, it was a win win despite all the hurdles. Today despite technology accidents are common , trains are over crowded and filthy, one has to book months in advance and be prepared for cancellation, speaking for myself I am yet to get a refund for the cancelled train on this particular route…. So much for digital India

Isn't it possible for the railway authorities to reroute the track or a new line altogether if there's a safe way? There should be a way out. Isn't it?

Theoretically yes. But setting a new line is a huge task. Feasibility study, budget allocation, land acquisition, actually construction, trials etc.. And at each stage babus and beauracracy.
