Udupi: School girl miraculously escapes street dog attack in Hoode

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Aug 10: A school-going girl narrowly escaped a street dog attack in Hoode, Udupi district, on Saturday morning. The girl used her umbrella to fend off the aggressive stray dog, preventing what could have been a serious incident.

The attack has sparked outrage among villagers, who are now demanding immediate action to address the growing stray dog problem in the area.

When approached, panchayat officials explained the challenges they face in managing stray dogs.

Screen grabs from CCTV footage

“The gram panchayat does not have the authority to kill stray dogs. We conduct an annual sterilization and anti-rabies vaccination drive, after which the dogs are released back into the same area. Capturing the dogs is difficult, and we must take GPS-tagged photos when the dogs are captured and again when they are released,” an official stated.

These stray dogs population have been increasing at a raging speed and if this is not controlled, then the public is in trouble. They get agitated and without any second thought attack the passerby which is posing high danger in many of undivided district of DK and Udupi. If local authorities does not action on this serious issues, i am sure many innocent children will get attacked by these dogs, which can become disaster.

A big joke from Panchayat. Why leave them back in their vacanity so that they can bite and harass old people and maul children? Are they needed on roads?Should govt.protect citizens or protect dogs from road? They will further roam about and waiting for food or a to harass when nothing falls. They can catch hold of them and put in a place where they dont harm citizens with surrounded fence.Who feeds them then?

Stray dogs are dangerous. Even if the dog bite is harmless to look at, it can lead to serious infections or rabies, and eventually result in death.

Rabies spreads through all mammals including humans. Therefore any bite with blood contact from any mammal with rabies infection spreads the disease.
