New Delhi, Nov 13 (Agencies): Former President APJ Abdul Kalam was subjected to frisking at JFK Airport in New York at the end of September this year.
Dr Kalam, who was seated inside an Air India aircraft before departure, had to part with his coat and shoes, reports in media said.
Air India and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) informed the government about this incident.
According to sources, US security insisted on taking away Dr Kalam’s coat and shoes for analysis even after being requested not to do so as Dr Kalam was a former head of state of India.
A swab analysis is done to detect any trace of explosives. Dr Kalam’s coat and shoes were returned to him after the analysis.
This is the second such incident involving Dr Kalam. Two years ago he was frisked at the Delhi airport by a US-based airline.
