Mangaluru, Sep 2: St Agnes School (CBSE), Mangaluru, celebrated 'National Space Day' on August 23 in alignment with nationwide festivities and following the guidelines set by the CBSE Board. This commemoration was in honour of India's significant achievement with the successful Chandrayaan-3 moon landing, positioning India as the fourth country to reach the lunar surface.
Recognizing these milestones, the Government of India designated August 23 as 'National Space Day', acknowledging India's progress in space science and technology and inspiring future space enthusiasts. The theme for National Space Day 2024 was ‘Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga', serving as the central focus for the day's events.
The school arranged several events to celebrate the occasion. Students engaged in a painting activity to express their imaginative interpretations of space. Videos about Chandrayaan were presented to the students, they were also encouraged to register on the 'Bharat on the Moon' portal and take part in various activities related to the mission. An Oath Taking Ceremony took place, where both students and faculty enthusiastically pledged their dedication to advancing knowledge and innovation.
A session on ‘Space and Science’ was organized, featuring informative discussions on Chandrayaan, rockets, and spacecraft. Sr Yevette D’Souza, a lecturer at St Agnes College, presented a keynote address on ‘Space and Technology', highlighting the crucial role of technology and innovation in space exploration. The day wrapped up with an interactive space quiz, challenging students' understanding and igniting their interest in the cosmos.
