Bihar teen dies after quack doctor performs surgery using YouTube videos

Patna, Sep 9: A teenage boy from Saran district, Bihar, has died after a quack doctor allegedly performed gall bladder surgery using YouTube tutorials.

The individual, identified as Ajit Kumar Puri, was arrested in Gopalganj district on Sunday, September 8, in the night, according to Kumar Ashish, Superintendent of Police (SP), Saran.

The deceased, Golu Kumar, a resident of Bhualpur village, had been suffering from stomach pain. His family took him to a private clinic in Dharmabagi Bazar on Friday, where Puri conducted the surgery after watching videos online.

Following the operation, Golu's condition worsened. He was rushed to Patna but died en route on September 7.

Prahlad Prasad, Golu’s grandfather, reported that Puri performed the surgery without the family's consent. Puri fled the scene after Golu’s condition deteriorated, leaving Golu's body and Prasad's wife on the roadside. The family eventually managed to return with Golu's body.

The family lodged a police complaint on September 7, alleging that Puri was a quack.

Saran SP Kumar Ashish confirmed that Puri has been arrested and that the district police are taking action against the clinic where the surgery was performed.

The police are also launching a drive to identify and address other illegal clinics in the area.

This seems like a very strange case. Such things used to happen in Pakistan before, but now it’s happening in India, that too in Bihar. An impostor posing as a doctor performed surgery, and how the clinic allowed him to do so needs to be thoroughly investigated. The poor patient lost his life at the hands of a butcher. The clinic owner and anyone who supported this fake doctor should be jailed and given strict punishment.
