Model Code of Conduct in effect until Oct 28 for biennial elections in Udupi, DK

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi/DK (JD)

Udupi/Mangaluru, Sep 23: The Election Commission of India has issued a notification for the bye-election for the MLC seat, vacated after Kota Srinivas Poojary was elected as an MP, bringing the model code of conduct into effect until October 28.

To prevent violations of the code, various teams have been formed at the taluk level. Permissions for election rallies, meetings, and vehicle campaigning within the district can be obtained from the assistant election officers and additional deputy commissioners at the single-window center in the deputy commissioner collector’s office.

Candidates and their agents campaigning in the constituency, which covers both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, must submit necessary information and apply for travel permissions at the single-window center located on the first floor of the election officer's office.

For non-political public gatherings or events, organizers must submit information and applications in advance at the single-window centers in all taluk offices and obtain permission from the respective tahsildars. However, permission is not required for private events such as weddings, though organizers must ensure that the model code of conduct is not violated.

Mamatha Devi G S, the additional deputy commissioner of Udupi and assistant election officer for the constituency, has requested public cooperation to ensure adherence to the model code of conduct.
