Mangaluru: St Theresa's School hosts career guidance session for grade 10 students

Mangaluru, Sep 28: On September 28, 2024, St Theresa's School, in collaboration with the PTA, hosted a transformative career guidance session for grade X students, designed to assist them in charting their future career paths through insightful perspectives on various fields of study.

The event commenced with a prayer led by Roopa, followed by an inspiring welcome from Sela, who introduced the esteemed resource persons and established an encouraging atmosphere for the day.

Abhilash initiated the session with an engaging icebreaker, focusing on opportunities within the science, commerce, and arts streams.

Key highlights:

1. Know your interests: Stressing the significance of identifying personal interests as a foundational element for career decisions.
2. Plan your actions: Encouraging students to make informed choices, set clear goals, and prioritize their tasks effectively.
3. Reality testing: Addressing prevalent dilemmas regarding stream selection influenced by external pressures, including parental expectations and peer comparisons.
4. Explore your options: Providing guidance on subject selection and its ramifications for future careers, particularly emphasizing the importance of mathematics as a critical competency.
5. Career insights: Offering comprehensive information on various fields, including engineering, medical and paramedical sciences, biotechnology, computer science, and food and hotel industries. The relevance of entrance exams such as CET, JEE, NATA, NUCAT, and MET was also highlighted.
6. Aligning personal interests with career choices: Encouraging students to pursue careers that resonate with their passions and aspirations.
7. Skills development and educational pathways: Offering insights into essential skills and educational routes pertinent to diverse career paths.

The session continued with Tej sharing a thought-provoking narrative about a sculpture, underscoring the importance of time management and soft skills, as well as statistics regarding students in higher education in India. He discussed the growing demand for careers in clinical fields, engineering, and business, urging parents to actively support their children’s interests in these domains.

Dr Francisca emphasized the vital role of communication skills in career advancement. The career guidance session was a resounding success, equipping both students and parents with essential information and resources. It underscored the importance of making informed career choices and inspired students to pursue their passions with confidence and determination.
