'Aloy Quizzard' competition held at St Aloysius College Higher Primary School

Mangaluru, Nov 2: On October 27 St. Aloysius College Higher Primary School, in collaboration with the St Aloysius Higher primary alumni association, organized a unique quiz programme titled 'Aloy Quizzard – A Quiz with a Difference'. The event aimed to celebrate diversity and promote inclusiveness in education, providing an excellent platform for students to share their views and collaborate towards achieving excellence.

The programme commenced with a prayer song, invoking divine blessings for the event by the teachers of St Aloysius Primary School. Avinash D’Souza, alumnus of the school, introduced the programme, highlighting the commitment of the school in providing a strong foundation in reading, writing and guiding students in their journey towards holistic development. Dr Christopher D’Souza, president of the alumni association, extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, captain Brijesh Chowta, a distinguished alumnus and member of parliament for the Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency. The event was also graced by the presence of Fr Melwin Pinto SJ, rector of Aloysius Institutions, Mangaluru, Fr John DSouza SJ, director of St Aloysius ITI, Jositta Noronha, the headmistress, staff, PTA members, office bearers & members of the alumni association, participants from various schools were present. Among the many schools, the students from the ‘Roman and Catherine School for the Blind’ and the ‘SDM Mangalajyothi Integrated School’ made a difference for their fellow participants and viewers.

In his address, MP Capt Brijesh Chowta commended the initiative, emphasizing its importance in cultivating a society that values both the strengths and challenges of individuals to build a stronger community and nation. He praised St Aloysius Institutions as a model of excellence and urged the organizers to persist in promoting such inclusive efforts.

The competition featured two semi-final rounds with five teams, each comprising students from diverse backgrounds, including those who were visually and hearing impaired, as well as students from private and government schools. The final round saw six teams competing in four engaging rounds: Braille round, General Quiz, Charades round and Kannada Questionaries’. The quiz masters were Dr Annappa Kamath and Vikas Jain from the Mangalore Quizzing Foundation.

Team 5 emerged as the winners, with team members Vishnu Dev Pandey, Avika Joshi, Praveen Lakshman, N Nishan and Adithya M being awarded trophies and certificates. The programme also included interactive sessions with the audience, offering gift vouchers for correct answers. Avinash Dsouza expertly compered the programme Neil Rodrigues the secretary of Alumni Association delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Alumni Association, supporting staff, teachers, sponsors and media partner Daijiworld for the live transmission. Many of the alumni of the school as well as SACAA members gladly witnessed the event. The event was a resounding success, reinforcing the values of inclusiveness and educational excellence.

The winners of the quiz were crowned the Aloy-Quizzard 2024. The names of the students are:

• Praveen Lakshman (School: Government Higher Primary School, Bokkapatna)
• Vishnu dev Pandey (School: St Aloysius Gonzaga CBSE School)
• Avika Joshi (School: St Aloysius Gonzaga CBSE School)

The runners’ up of the quiz were:

• Adithya Patel (School: Roman and Catherine School for the Blind)
• U Ameen Nida (School: SDM Mangalajyothi Integrated School)
• Gudiya Modi (School: Government Higher Primary School, Kapikad)
• Vishal A (School: Sacred Heart School)
