Will Provide All Support to IT Sector: Mamata

Kolkata, Dec 8 (IANS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday called upon industrialists to generously invest in the IT sector in the state, saying her government was ready to provide all support.

"Our government is keen to see that this area (IT sector) goes ahead with a specific task. And our government has already decided to set up a new IT policy. In this regard, I am strictly announcing that my government is committed to this subject," Banerjee said at an industry event here.

She said the government had decided to set up IT hubs in Durgapur, Haldia, Kalyani, Siliguri and other parts of the state.

"I will request all of you to devote time for this industry. Invest whatever you can and from our side, the government is fully committed to helping the industry," she said.

Stating that her government had already taken several initiatives on e-governance, the chief minister said: "There are so many areas which have not been touched yet. I feel that the knowledge industry is not only an industry, it also gives information to the world. Let us nurture the area. This is an employment-potential area."
