Mangaluru, Nov 10: The grand finale of ‘Pepere Pepe Dum,’ the largest brass band festival in Coastal Karnataka, concluded in a spectacular fashion on Sunday at the Kelarai Church grounds. Organized by the ‘Ami ani Amchim’ organization, the event brought together music lovers and dignitaries from across the region, showcasing the rich tradition of brass bands and fostering a message of peace and harmony.
Prominent philanthropist and NRI entrepreneur Dr Ronald Colaco, who graced the occasion, expressed his pride in the event's success and the significance of the Dr Ronald Colaco Samarasya Award – 2024. This year, the award was conferred upon Pattadhyaksharu Sri Math Sanehalli Hosadurga Chitradurga seer Sri Panditaradhya Shivacharya Swamiji, in recognition of his relentless efforts toward promoting unity, education, and social welfare.
Reflecting on the importance of harmony, Dr Colaco stated, “In times when social cohesion is at risk, it is vital to acknowledge those who contribute to peace. The Ronald Colaco Samarasya Award embodies this belief, and I am immensely proud that it recognizes the transformative work of Swamiji, who has tirelessly promoted religious and national integration.”
Dr Colaco emphasized that events like ‘Pepere Pepe Dum’ help preserve the art of the brass band, ensuring that this musical tradition thrives for generations. He lauded the ‘Ami ani Amchim’ organization for their dedication in organizing such a unique event and for instituting an award that inspires society to reflect on peace and cooperation.
“While we are proud of our cultural diversity, the growing polarization driven by some politicians for vote-bank politics is alarming. This divisiveness impedes social and economic development. Despite being the fifth-largest economy, India struggles with poverty, unemployment, and malnutrition. True progress can only be achieved through peace and harmony,” he added, underlining the necessity of unity for national growth.
Speaking at the event, Swamiji accepted the award with humility. “It is essential to contribute positively during our time in this world. What we do for society is remembered far more than any material wealth we accumulate,” he said. Quoting Basavanna, Swamiji reminded the audience of the importance of breaking down the barriers of religion and fostering love and respect for all. Through his storytelling, he imparted lessons of inner peace and coexistence.
