Udupi, Nov 11: The Association of ICSE and CBSE Schools (AICS) Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, in collaboration with SMS English Medium School (CBSE) Brahmavar hosted a state-level educational conference, at SMS Community Hall, Brahmavar on November 11.
The conference began with a traditional candle-lighting ceremony by the dignitaries and the resource persons of the conference.
Merida D Almeida, educationist, in her introductory note detailed about the school and the association, “Today’s theme highlights how shifts in our thinking have led to a decline in values. Even though we are aware of group causes, we the educators fail to rectify the degradation of values. Educational goals should not have an approach in short term making of quick money, it should be converted into philosophy for our long-term welfare. The main objective of today's conference is to empower the educator to shape the future where every child discovers the opportunity in non-conventional industries rather than getting into the highest paid jobs.”
Fr M C Mathai, president of OSC education society, “Teaching is the mother of all other professions. Teaching is the creator of all other professions. Teachers are like tap; they import education to students. Education is the whole personality of students. IQ differs from person to person. Emotional Quotient EQ is also important along with IQ. The emotional approach must be taught to them. And relationship quotient also should be taught to them. What children see they learn, therefore teach them through your actions. A moral behavior should be developed in them.”
Manmohan Nayak, president of AICS, stated, “A teacher is, first and foremost, always a teacher. Teachers continuously learn and pass on that knowledge. Often, a teacher is recognized by their role rather than their name. The theme, ‘Elevate Humanity,’ signifies fostering a sense of humanity within ourselves and towards others. We should begin by learning from our students and understanding their expectations. A teacher’s mantra is to keep studying, learning, and evolving. Our mission is not merely to prepare students for jobs, but to contribute to nation-building. Emphasizing emotional intelligence is essential, students must learn the value of sharing and caring for others.”
The conference also featured a Yakshagana performance by the teaching staff and students of SMS English Medium School as a welcome dance.
Abhilasha S, principal of SMS English Medium School welcomed the gathering. Vincent D'Costa, sports secretary, proposed the vote of tanks. Princia Monteiro mastered the ceremony.
Director Little Rock Indian School Brahmavar Prof Mathew C Ninan, Louis Fernandes, Alan, secretary Geetha Shashidar, treasure Fr Melvin, sports secretary Fr Arun and others were present on the occasion.
