Mangaluru, Nov 27: A local court in Mangaluru has sentenced Hanumanth Kamath to 90 days of imprisonment for contempt of court.
The case stemmed from a court order restraining Kamath from interfering in the administrative activities and daily operations of the Sri Vitobha Rukumayi Devara Bhandara located on V T Road, Mangaluru. The order also prohibited Kamath from claiming to be a trustee of the temple.
This injunction was sought by M Varadaya Prabhu, a trustee of the temple, who had requested a temporary restraining order against Kamath. Despite the court's directive, Kamath allegedly continued to declare himself a trustee and participated in administrative affairs, violating the court's order.
Kamath's appeal against the restraining order was dismissed by the same court, and his subsequent writ petition in the High Court also failed to provide any relief.
Upon reviewing the evidence, the court found Kamath guilty of wilfully defying its order and sentenced him to 90 days of imprisonment.
Senior advocate P Ranjan Rao represented the petitioner in the case.
