Rome, Nov 30: "Centuries ago, Christians established schools in rural India, contributing selflessly to societal welfare and uplifting the lives of the common people. May the higher education you pursue at this prominent Christian religious center in Rome and your spirit of service inspire you to render selfless service in the rural areas of Karnataka," said Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U T Khader.

He was addressing members of Christian organizations of Karnataka origin during an event organized by Konkani Kutam Rome and the Kannadigas’ Association Rome at the St Peter's Pontifical College. The event coincided with Khader's visit to Rome to participate in an international interfaith dialogue programme.

During the programme, Fr Jill D’Souza from the Mangalore diocese elaborated on U T Khader's contributions and achievements. Fr Jovin Sequeira provided insights into the activities of the Konkani organization, while Fr Richard spoke about the initiatives undertaken by the Kannada association.

Fr Jose from St Peter’s Pontifical College delivered a message and extended his best wishes. On behalf of both organizations, Speaker Khader was felicitated in recognition of his service. The event included a prayer service led by Fr Sebastian.

Fr Lawrence Noronha, the event coordinator, welcomed the gathering, while Sr Carmel from the Vatican Communication Department delivered the vote of thanks. Fr Royson Fernandes from Hirgana compered the programme.
