Mangaluru, Dec 11: Two individuals were killed and three others injured on Wednesday, December 11 when a truck rammed into an Omni car where five people were resting during a walkathon from Mangaluru to Delhi, demanding swift punishment for rapists.

The accident occurred around 2 pm, approximately 200 km from Surat in Gujarat.

Among the deceased, one has been identified as Moosa Sharief from Charmadi in Dakshina Kannada district, and the other as Praveen. While they were resting beside the road in the car, a truck collided with it, killing Moosa Sharief and Praveen on the spot. The impact severely damaged the Omni car, and the truck fled the scene after the collision.

Moosa Sharief, a well-known social activist affiliated with the KRS party, was also a leader of the Karnataka Sarathis Trade Union. The group of five had embarked on the walkathon intending to meet the prime minister and submit a memorandum seeking immediate punishment for rapists, highlighting the alarming rise in such cases amidst the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign in the country.
