Udupi, Jan 11: BJP MLA for Karkala, Sunil Kumar, has raised serious concerns about the recent Naxal surrender process in Karnataka.
He questioned the authenticity of these surrenders, stating, "Every day, there are doubts about the genuineness of these surrenders. Why were no weapons present during the surrender? Where have the weapons hidden by Naxals in their homes been stored? Audio clips of Vikram Gowda have surfaced, where he claims not to have surrendered. Was he killed because he refused, and were others forced into surrender? The chief minister and Home Department must clarify the situation publicly. How did the naxals receive information about the chief minister's tweet immediately? The events surrounding the surrender process seem like a staged drama within 15 days," he alleged.
Kumar also criticised the methods employed by the authorities. "The Police Department's Director General must confirm the validity of these surrender processes. Hundreds of families in Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga are awaiting rehabilitation under forest resettlement schemes, yet funds for these packages remain unallocated. However, the government seems in a hurry to provide packages to naxals," he remarked.
He further accused the state government of being lenient toward urban Naxals, claiming that they pose the greatest threat to the country. "The government's actions resemble a puppet of urban Naxals. The Chief Minister must shed his soft approach toward them. While Gandhian principles were once central to his politics, his recent shift toward Maoist ideologies is concerning," Kumar said.
Kumar criticised the chief minister's office, stating, "The chief minister’s decisions should reflect his own thoughts and judgments, not those of urban Naxals. Krishna, the office of the Chief Minister, must remain a symbol of leadership and not transform into a hub for urban Naxals."
Sunil Kumar also addressed the current political scenario in Karnataka, stating, “Congress leader D K Shivakumar will not easily gain authority within the party. Shivakumar will have to fight for his leadership. Even when S M Krishna became the chief minister, he had to wrest a ministerial position. Siddaramaiah's supporters will not readily hand over power to D K Shivakumar."
On his constituency’s development, Sunil Kumar highlighted, "Whoever becomes the chief minister, my only request is for funds to be allocated for my region. In the past two years, not even one rupee of funding has been released. Despite heavy rains, development has been stagnant, creating a drought-like situation in terms of progress."
Addressing internal differences within the BJP, Kumar said, “The matter has been left to the party's national leaders. We have already begun preparations for the local body elections. B S Yediyurappa remains our tallest leader, and his statewide tours have been bringing workers together. The state president has initiated the election readiness process,” he added.
