Kasargod, Jan 14: Kumble police have registered a case against office-bearers of the festival committee in connection with the bursting of fireworks during the ‘Bedi Utsava’ held as part of the annual fair of the Kanipura Sri Gopalakrishna Temple in Kumble.

The accused have been identified as K Sadananda Kamath, Madhusudana Kamath, Lakshman Prabhu, and Sudhakar Kamath.

The police have filed the case citing the dangerous display of fireworks in an open area on the western side of the district forensic science laboratory under the leadership of the temple festival committee office-bearers.

While the tradition of bursting fireworks during temple festivals remains in practice, the government has been urging organizers to avoid such displays, considering the risk of accidents and prioritizing safety over customs.
