Mangaluru, Jan 20: Lourdes Central School organized a capacity building programme in association with CBSE, COE, Bengaluru Region on the topic ‘Use of artificial intelligence in classrooms’ on January 18 in the Conference Hall of the school. The event aimed to empower teachers to integrate AI tools effectively for enhanced teaching, personalized learning, and improved efficiency, and saw active participation from 60 teachers from classes I to XII.
The session commenced with invoking God's blessings through a hymn, led by Roshan Cordeiro. Chandini Chitraveer extended a warm welcome and introduced the esteemed resource experts, certified CBSE trainers Neha N M, academic coordinator at Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir, Mangaluru, and Nishita, from Delhi Public School an expert in SAFAL and Information Technology.
The inaugural ceremony featured the lighting of the lamp by the principal, Fr Johnson L Sequeira, the resource experts, and the vice principals, Belita Mascarenhas and Anita Thomas. In his keynote address, the principal highlighted the growing relevance of AI in daily life while emphasizing the continued importance of teachers in shaping students' futures.
Neha commenced the first module, focusing on promoting mental health and well-being among students. She identified common emotional and behavioral issues among students and discussed strategies to address them effectively.
Nishita led the second session, delving into the concept of AI, its goals, and scope. She explained the different types of AI Narrow AI, General AI, and Super AI and their respective roles. She also introduced various AI-powered tools such as Khan Academy, Photomath, Cymath, Geogebra, Symbolab, Kolibri, and Duolingo, demonstrating their applications in teaching, clarifying concepts, imparting subject-specific knowledge, and creating assignments.
Nishita further explored AI applications like Kahoot, Quizizz, Quizlet, and sketch party to enhance the teaching-learning process. Additionally, she discussed AI tools for tasks such as creating timetables, tracking assignment submissions, photo editing, and creative writing.
Both resource experts made the sessions interactive through icebreakers, debates, chart presentations, games and so on, keeping participants actively involved throughout. They ensured that the participants understood and retained everything explained through the assessment sheets.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Joshika. The principal presented the memento to the resource experts as a token of gratitude and appreciation. Deepika Fernandes skillfully compered the event.
The workshop was highly informative and beneficial. The participants remain grateful to the principal and the school management committee for organizing this informative programme, which significantly enriched their knowledge of AI and its applications in education.
