Cylinder Blast Triggers Building Collapse in Delhi, 5 Dead

New Delhi, Jan 4 (IANS): Five Killed in Delhi Building Collapse

Five people, including three children, were killed and five injured when a portion of a one-storey building in west Delhi collapsed following a gas cylinder blast Wednesday morning, an official said.

Police said the explosion took place at around 7.30 a.m. in Railway Colony at Mundka.

A fire brigade official told IANS: "The LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) cylinder was possibly leaking and suddenly caught fire as some of the labourers were cooking."

"Such was the impact that the one-storey structure, which was weak, collapsed soon after the explosion," he added.

Fire brigade officials rushed to the spot immediately for rescue operations.

The wounded were rushed to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where five were declared dead.
