Daijiworld Steps into 12th Year: Anisa Fathima New Resident Editor

Jan 14, 2012
Mangalore / Dubai

Dear esteemed readers of Daijiworld,

As we complete one more fruitful year in our eventful journey in this information-driven world, we would like to take this opportunity to convey our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has helped and supported us in reaching this far and fulfiling our mission as a responsible media.

The year 2011 has been quite rewarding for Daijiworld on various accounts, specially in terms of expanding our readership base. This year we emerged as one of the premier web portals in the country, with a 50% increase in readership within India and 30% increase in total readership worldwide. In terms of commercials also, we have achieved a significant growth for the 2011 calender year. In addition, we have also spread our wings to Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.

Facts and figures apart, we are happy that quite a good number of our exclusive and investigative reports have created social and economic impact in the society, which has helped us to bring some kind of a change in the system.

Anisa Fathima - Resident Editor

Daijiworld, which started on the auspicious occasion of Makara Sankranti on January 14, 2001, is now proud to announce its new Resident Editor, Anisa Fathima.

Young and dynamic journalist from Mangalore, Anisa, alumna of St Aloyisus College and top rank holder in MA English, has been part of Daijiworld since 2006. Apart from her experience in Daijiworld, she has done her internship in The Times of India, New Delhi edition.

She took up the mantle of responsibility as Resident Editor from May last year, but now we would like to make the announcement officially. She will be responsible for the content of the website including news, articles and editorial matters. She will be leading a group of over 60 journalists from around the twin districts of coastal Karnataka, other parts of India and abroad.

We, the management of Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd, take this opportunity to welcome her.

Our concern towards social causes continued in 2011 as well, and with the help of generous support from readers worldwide, at least 22 families, individuals and institutions received great monetary assistance, which helped them to lead better lives. All credit goes to those who responded to the appeals published by Daijiworld, and reached out to them directly, without any third party mediation. With this kind of support, we assure you that we will continue our mission in the future also. This is one part of our work that gives us enormous satisfaction in our journey. Indeed, it is the ultimate reward for our sincere efforts and committment.

There has been a request from several of our readers/contributors to open a dedicated account (supervised by Daijiworld) to reach out to the needy, but due to various factors, including statutory obligations, at the moment we are not in a position to take such responsibilities. Let us continue in the same way, and meantime, we assure you that appeals brought forth through Daijiworld are purely on merit basis, published only after careful verification and recommendation from reliable sources.

During the just concluded year, many young writers found a platform to present their talent through Daijiworld columns. While we shall continue this trend in the future too, we invite more number of young and budding writers to make full use of this opportunity to exhibit their talent and create their own identity in the field of journalism.

In the year ahead, we hope to have a smooth ride as ever, do better, achieve higher goals and reach out to more people. We promise to come up with more aggressive and innovative ideas to keep our readers interested and informed.

Please guide us in our journey, we need your support and blessings. Kindly feel free to send your feedback, and correct us when we are wrong. It is you, the readers, who keep us on our toes with your constructive criticism, and boost our spirits with words of appreciation.

Once again, we take this opportunity to thank our readers, contributors, staff correspondents in India and abroad, support staff, honorary correspondents, freelancers, sponsors, advertisers, advertising agencies, associations worldwide, and all the authorities concerned, for their selfless efforts and support in taking Daijiworld to a greater height.

We are with you, always. That's a promise.

Sincerely,

Walter Nandalike

Editor-in-chief

    Dear DW,

Thank you for raising the character limit of comments to 2000. You have given me an opportunity to drill into certain readers brains and sometimes I was falling short of space.

I will remain grateful to you for an opportunity to put my view into words and read them again when they are released online. I know I have been a pest sometimes but with your able editing staff, many times aptly tamed.

I give you my word - will never let you down !

It is really a good news and it is natural that he year 2011 has been quite rewarding for Daijiworld on various accounts, specially in terms of expanding its readership base.

We as avid readers of Daijiworld shall express our gratitude and we all can be proud of it.

I have been reading Daijiworld for three years because I have close friends in Mangalore and it is always a pleasure to read Daijiworld early in the morning and to send comments.

And congratulations to the highly qualified new Resident Editor, Anisa Fathima. She will be responsible for the content of the website including news, articles and editorial matters. She will be leading a group of over 60 journalists from around the twin districts of coastal Karnataka, other parts of India and abroad.

Daijiworld offers top quality news and I like especially the coverage of Konkani language and culture and activities of various Catholic parishes in the diocese of Mangalore.

And I appreciate the concerns of Daijiworld towards social causes and readers all over the world gave financial support at least 22 families, individuals and institutions received great monetary assistance, which helped them to lead better lives.

Daijiworld helps the needy and poor. That impresses me a lot.

Many young writers found a platform to present their talent through Daijiworld columns. That happens on a regular basis and we all read their stories and often I am surprised about their talent.

And by sending regularly comments to Daiji ,which are published, I am in touch with many readers of Daijiworld by mails and through Skype.

Thank you Daijiworld, you offer me as a foreigner a wonderful opportunity to know so much about Mangalore.

    Best regards

congratulations to Ms.Anisa & Nandalike. You are doing excellent job. I have a small suggetion if you could start a small column for readers to express their problems, solutions etc. would have been appriciated. Eg.I ride 2 wheeler many times the munciple peolple take garbage in trucks by over loading or withouut covering. It is very difficult for the 2 wheelers to ride. The other day i complained to the traffic police he said to go & complain in the corporation office. This is not only my problem. So if you have a column to express these type of problems I/we may get a solution or it can be bring to the notice of the concerned person or somebody might taken care or helped to overcome. There are somany these types of problems so dear Dajiworld I request you to start one such colonm to share everybody's problem with everybody for a better life. And also through you anybody can bring awarenss to the society. Thank you.

Dear Walter, many congrats to you and your entire team there at Daijiworld for appointing on board a new Resident Editor. Just a small request Walter ... give Anisa a FREE HAND (let her not be intimidated) in deciding the pros and cons which needs to appear on your portal - case in point is particularly made concerning your message (the second-last para), where I have umpteen number of times written to you concerning suggestions / complaints, etc. but for some strange reasons these NEVER appeared or your portal and seems to have deliberately left it out. By and large, I have observed think you adopt a partiality attitude to those who are close to you., especially when it comes to politics. Seems to me some people are very close to your heart. This is totally unacceptable in print media and you ought to be very flexible to everybody.

The Daiji's 11 year's journey can be best described in following lines from H.W. Longfellow.

The heights of great men reached and kept,
Were not obtained by sudden flight,
But they, while their companions slept
Were toiling upward in the night

Daijiworld Media is very popular and very much loved by a very large number of readers due to its unbiased news reports. A small suggestion - instead of closing the chapter after arrest of criminals, it would be appreciated if the matter is pursued and published till the court verdict of these criminals on sensitive cases such as hoisitng of enemy flags. We would like to know the intention and legal action taken against these traitors.Wish you all the best 'Daijiworld Media' and its new Resident Editor Ms. Anis Fathima

I join scores of people in extending a warm welcome to Anisa Fathima to Daijiworld. Daijiworld has done a commendable job and to take this media to greater heights it was expedient that an efficient professional is given the responsibility. It is good to see that choice has fallen on the right person. Anisa with her rich experience and a fund of knowledge should be able to make a very valuable contribution towards the progress and growth of Daijiworld. I am particularly happy that Anisa and I have had the privilege of attending the same College - St. Aloysius and this Alma Mater is indeed a bonding factor.

    Dear Shriman Walter,
Thank you for the good news whereby you have chosen Sheikha Anisa Fathima as your new Resident Editor for Daijiworld. What a fine and timely decision for which we congratulate and applaud you wholeheartedly.

More than five years ago, when we stepped into your tiny office, bear-footed, near Bendore Well, we were privileged to see a "delicate doll" seated quietely in a corner, with a beautiful smile, watching us curiously and listening to us cautiously. We had the distinct feeling then that this quiet lady would turn out one day to be a "leader" in one form or another. We then took keen interest in reading some of her valuable articles and we have never ceased to watch her progress in the field of journalism eversince. We are proud to learn that Lady Anisa has turned out to be your Resident Editor of your proud web site. We wish Anisa best of success in all her future endeavours towards the service of journalism and extend our warm hearted support. As and when we visit Mangalore next, "Inshallah", we shall make it a point to into your office to pay our respects to her Majesty, Lady Fathima and shall offer our humble credentials.

Its a fine and perfect decision indeed - congratulations again and Qudha Afeiz.
