Bengaluru, Mar 11: The Karnataka Assembly has passed the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill 2024, aimed at restructuring the city’s administration, despite a walkout by the opposition.

The bill, which seeks to enhance governance efficiency in the state capital, was introduced amid heated debates. Opposition leaders raised concerns over certain provisions, alleging that the bill centralizes power and side-lines local representatives. However, the ruling party defended the move, stating that it would streamline civic administration and improve public services.

Despite protests, the bill was passed, marking a significant step towards a revamped governance framework for Bengaluru. Meanwhile, opposition parties have vowed to continue their fight against what they term an “anti-democratic” legislation.
