Mangaluru: St Agnes College celebrates Librarians’ Day with focus on digital knowledge

Mangaluru, Aug 22: The Library and Information Centre of St Agnes College (Autonomous), celebrated Librarians’ Day with a session on ‘Unlocking digital knowledge: Effective use of electronic resources in academia and research’ at the Conference Hall, Sophia Block, on Wednesday, August 19.

Dr Rekha D Pai, associate professor, department of library and information science, and chief librarian, central library, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, was the resource person. She highlighted the effective database searching, evaluation of online information and the use of digital resources for academic writing and research.

Principal Sr Dr M Venessa AC, who presided over the programme, stressed the role of libraries in promoting curiosity, independent learning and intellectual growth. She urged students to balance the use of technology and Artificial Intelligence with reading, note-making and independent learning, and highlighted the importance of research in developing critical thinking and innovation.

On the occasion of Librarian’s Day, book review video competition was held and prizes were distributed to the winners.

Librarian and programme coordinator Avil D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Sanvi T Kottary compered the programme, while Christal Nisha Mascarenhas proposed the vote of thanks.
